Meet Melissa

Marggie (over-involved, caring, friendly)

Life Story:
New England bred, Catholic School education from nursery school through College, married, three children, four grandchildren, very active in community activities, Masters in Accounting and one time CPA, now love reading, knitting, tennis and politics.

What types of books you enjoy reading, or what makes you love a book:
Good fiction, international authors (especially mystery writers), memoirs, literary humor, social science and even some business books. I love learning history by reading historical fiction- and if it's set in a third world country, all the better.

The five books I would absolutely need on a desert island would be:
1. Shipbuilding made easy, with minimal equipment.
2. How to grow anything, anywhere
3. Long distance swimming for dummies
4. Edible wild plants

When not reading, I am walking, playing tennis, knitting, or traveling.

Community Affiliations: League of Women Voters, St. Vincent's Church, Pine Hills Neighborhood Organization, Woodlawn New Scotland Neighborhood Organization

Favorite childhood book: All the Nancy Drew and Bobsey Twins books

Top five authors:
1. Ann Patchett
2. Barbara Kingsolver
3. Nora Ephron
4. Henning Mankell
5. Richard Russo

Book that I'm an evangelist for: Independent People; I Feel Bad About my Neck

Book that changed my life: Poisonwood Bible

Favorite line from a book: Aujourd'hui maman est morte...

Book you most want to read again for the first time: Snow; Istambul
